Is The Chosen Season 3, Episode 2 Biblical? What if God doesn’t heal you with a miracle?

Hey, all! If you’re anything like me, you enjoy watching The Chosen, right? Really, it’s so good. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend you check it out. Seeing Jesus in action can be a huge faith builder on your healing journey. But recently, I watched episode 2 (season 3), and whoa, I did not agree with one of the final scenes.

No spoilers, but here’s the tiniest summary:

Little James, one of Jesus’ disciples, has some kind of ailment that causes him to limp. By now, he has seen Jesus heal many people. But Jesus hasn’t healed Little James. Finally, Little James asks him why. And Jesus responds that yes, he could heal him instantly with a miracle, but he wants Little James to spread his message that you can say God is good even without the miracle.

I won’t lie: this scene really bothers me. And here’s why:

  1. A miracle is not the only way God heals. I did not receive a miracle (not that I didn’t pray for it!); I’m someone who healed by being transformed by the renewing of my mind (Rom 12:2). God can heal miraculously but he heals in many other ways, too. So yes, we can praise God even though the healing isn’t instantaneous, like Little James wants. But you are not sick because God refuses to heal you.

  2. God is a healer; that’s his character. In the Old Testament, God is given many names. In this instance, it’s Jehovah-Rapha, the “God who heals,” and he lives inside of you. The Bible says we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. His spirit is joined with our spirit. We are made new, born again and co-heirs with Christ. God does not choose where or when or how to heal; He is the healer inside all of us.

  3. Suffering is not ordained by God. Yes, I know there is suffering here on Earth that’s not God-ordained, like the kind that comes from the devil (who Jesus destroyed!) or persecution for standing up for our faith. But the suffering that comes from sickness is not something God wants for you. He wants to heal you. He wants you to let go of your flesh and trust in him.

  4. You can initiate your own healing. Now, don’t mistake this for striving, folks. I see clients get stuck in this ditch all the time. You’re not healed by your works, but God working inside you and your heart that gives true, lasting restoration of your mind, body and spirit.

Believe God will heal you and see how he works!

Friends, be encouraged. My big takeaway is this: learn to be content with the Spirit in the Word. Miracles are fantastic, but don’t go chasing after them. If you’re choosing to transform yourself through the renewing of your mind, you’re on the right path. God wants you healed and healthy more than you do. He loves you. He delights in you. I pray this message blesses you today, and you feel inspired to continue on your journey.
