Why can’t I heal? Is there something wrong with me?
When you’re sick, all you want to do is feel better. You want to be “normal” again, living the life you know God has planned for you. For most, healing journeys are up and down. One day you’re great, another day you’re doubting God hears you at all. And sometimes you just feel stuck and disheartened after seeing other people recover faster. You might be asking: What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I heal? Am I doing something wrong?
Many of the amazing people I coach come to me with these same questions. They’ve become stagnant in their progress despite having done brain retraining programs and witnessing others’ testimonies of healing. And they struggle to stay consistent with their practice as they grapple with doubt and feelings of shame, guilt and hopelessness.
First, let me assure you: there’s nothing inherently wrong with you. Scientifically, your brain is stuck in a fear-based trauma loop. Spiritually, your mind and beliefs have been influenced by lies of the enemy, the world and the flesh.
But God is not disappointed in you. You’re a beautiful creation, an eternal soul, a cherished child of God. Your existence is a testament to His goodness. He crafts only beauty and excellence, and we are the pinnacle of His creation. It is GOOD that you exist!!
The Struggle Within
If you’re practicing brain retraining yet wrestling with persistent sickness and symptoms, inner wounds are probably to blame. No matter what level of trauma you have experienced in your life, a broken or wounded heart stagnates recovery. Limiting beliefs such as I am not enough, I am unlovable, I am unworthy, I will never learn, and I will never heal are deep-seated lies you may be believing. These wounds are often hidden from conscious awareness, lying deep within. Blinded to the truth, you don’t know what you don’t know—until you get trusted guidance from someone who’s already overcome these same issues.
Even as you attempt to convince yourself otherwise, you feel like your mind is in a tug-of-war with itself. Consciously you want to move on and heal, but subconsciously (at the heart level), you can’t. Satan has his grip on you. The lies persist—and so do the symptoms. In turn, your map of reality distorts God’s truth about you. To cope, you erect walls, shielding yourself from the pain to survive.
But Jesus.
The love of Christ seeks to bring deep, permanent healing. It breaks down walls and dissolves strongholds. It penetrates every fiber of your being, transforming you from within.
The journey is about you and Jesus Christ. He yearns to pour out His love so you can overflow with resurrection life. He desires your complete redemption and restoration. He invites you to feel loved and accepted in full union with Him.
The question is: will you receive His love? Will you walk in His love?
You may be praying, reading the Bible and listening to sermons, but you can still have a block to receiving and walking in God’s love. Consciously or subconsciously, you might be resisting Him. It’s like saying you want to be loved but holding your arms out to keep Him away. If you’re being honest, can you relate?
Romans 5:5 says: “And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” (MEV)
Did you catch that? The love of God has already been poured out into your heart. He is telling the truth. The Song of Songs says we can come through this archway of trust (4:8 TPT). But this also means that sometimes you need to recognize that your brain is lying to you and that there are places where you aren’t already settled in His love. With God, you can always go deeper.
I’ve experienced this struggle repeatedly firsthand. While I still contend with it on some level, God has led me on a deep heart journey, teaching me to yield and receive the love I’ve always sought. By entering the archway of trust, I’ve become settled in security, wrapped in His love while simultaneously learning to be loved by Him more and more!
Within myself and hundreds that I’ve coached, the Holy Spirit has dismantled idols, strongholds, pains and wounds, replacing them with His perfect love. It’s through the principles of brain retraining coupled with the truth of God’s word that this transformation is possible. As you deepen your connection to the Lord, you become stronger, happier, healthier and even better than the “normal” person you long to be.
