Find Freedom & Healing Through Holy Spirit Inspired Visualizations

If you are looking for a way to implant God’s love and truth into your heart, find freedom in Christ and true healing, visualizations are a wonderful tool. I use visualizations in my programs, and I wanted to take a minute to share a little bit more information about them with all of you!

The science behind visualizations

Biologically speaking, when we experience positive emotions, there are four primary chemicals that are released. They are the so-called happy chemicals: dopamine, endorphins, oxytocin, and serotonin. When you experience positive emotions such as love, joy, awe, or happiness, these chemicals become healing neurotransmitters that guide your body’s systems to rest, digest and repair.

By investing the time in a visualization and remembering a positive memory then thanking God for what we have been given, you are able to re-experience those positive emotions which will in turn signal the healing neurotransmitters to take your body into rest, digest and repair mode. From there, you can move on to visualizing future realities and the happy chemicals will solidify new neural networks that carry forward into your future.

Additionally, as you visualize, you are disciplining your attention. Recalling joyful and loving moments helps you to reinforce your true identity in Christ. Then as you visualize your future, you are literally re-mapping the mind of Christ in you through new brain patterns.

Scripture Focus #1:

I stir up your pure minds (imagination) by way of a reminder
2 Peter 3:1

Rehearsing Remembrance
When you re-live a positive memory from your past, you flood your mind and body with life-giving emotions such as love, acceptance, joy, hope, and happiness. The act of recalling a positive memory unlocks your heart to receive his love and reveals God-created neural pathways. It allows you to remember the good things God has done for you and when you take the time to thank God, you make God bigger, and your issues smaller.

You can then allow the Holy Spirit to use your positive emotions to lead you to a future visualization.

Scripture Focus #2:

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11

Future Visualization
God loves you and He has plans for you that are even greater than anything you can dream up for yourself. So, see yourself living out His promises! Imagine your ultimate reality and in doing so teach your heart, mind, and body about all the new possibilities you have in Christ. Focus on the positive and speak in the present tense as if the future is already yours!

If you would like to try visualizations, below are some guidelines to keep in mind.

Visualization Guidelines

  • Aim for 5-8 minutes per visualization

  • Always speak in the present tense

  • Use your 5 senses during the visualization

  • Thank God for the positive emotions that come to you

  • It’s ok to cut negative parts from a memory

  • Be patient with yourself, if your mind wanders, gently remind yourself to refocus

Find Rest In Jesus.

I realize that some of you may have trouble picturing what a visualization would look and feel like or are not sure how to get started. I would like to help! I’ve shared a guided visualization on YouTube, and I invite you to sit back, relax and give it a try now.
